GI Bill - Selected Reserve
 


The Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve program provides up to 36 months of education benefits that may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses. Unlike active-duty members, reservists pay no enrollment fee. Under a change in law in the 2008 Defense Authorization Act, reservists have 10 years after separating from service to use their GI Bill benefits, just like active-duty members. To qualify for GI Bill benefits, reservists must have a six-year obligation to serve in the Selected Reserve or National Guard signed after June 30, 1985. Officers must agree to serve six years in addition to their original obligation. Some services also contribute extra education benefits to their members in the form of GI Bill "kickers."
