Veterans Affairs Department Opens Application Processing for Fry Scholarship

Recently, a new scholarship was created to honor the fallen soldier, Marine Gunnery Sergeant John D. Fry, who was killed by an improvised explosive device in 2008. The scholarship was an amendment to chapter 33 of the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which helps support children of fallen soldiers after September 10, 2001 by making education benefits available to them.

Beginning August 1, 2010, the VA will begin awarding payments under the Fry Scholarship, including retroactive benefits for children enrolled between August 1, 2009 and July 31, 2010. You can access the application for the Fry Scholarship through the GI Bill website.
