Sen. John Kerry and LA Governor Bobby Jindel hosted separate events as a send off for the upcoming Road 2 Recovery ride that starts Tuesday, May 20 at 10:30 am from the Mologne House at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC. The 6 day, 480 mile ride features injured soldiers from Walter Reed and Ft. Bragg. The ride finishes with a lap around Lowes Motor Speedway prior to the start of the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR event.

In Washington DC, Kerry, a Vietnam Vet and avid cyclist, paid tribute to Capt. Ferris Butler and the mission of the Road 2 Recovery program.

Held in partnership with the Fitness Challenge Foundation, the R2R will raise money to support Spinning® and outdoor cycling programs at Military and VA locations around the U.S. to help injured veterans overcome obstacles they face. Cycling is an important part of the recovery and rehabilitation program for two reasons:

1. Cycling is an activity that almost all patients with mental and physical disabilities can participate.

2. Participation in the Road 2 Recovery Program helps speed up the recovery and rehabilitation process.

"It doesn't matter if you agree with the policy or disagree with the policy, we have to take care of the men and women who have served this country", stated Kerry.

Kerry who is an avid cyclist, even taking part in the local training rides in the DC area, pledge to support the Road 2 Recovery effort and hopes to take part in an event in the near future.

In Louisiana, Governor Bobby Jindel and State VA Secretary Lane Carson honored Road 2 Recovery advisor Mike McNaughton prior to his departure for the upcoming ride to the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR event.
