Unsubscribe | Tell a Friend

June is PTSD Awareness Month, placing the national spotlight on the condition that affects over half a million troops deployed since 2001, as well as countless Veterans from previous conflicts. The Department of Veterans Affairs has a quick, self-screen to help you determine if you might have PTSD. Also, our friends at Give an Hour are at the ready to provide free and confidential mental health resources for those who serve, past and present, and their loved ones. Another resource is the David Lynch Foundation’s Operation Warrior Wellness (OWW) program. OWW offers the Transcendental Meditation-based Resilient Warrior Program, a simple, easy-to-learn, evidence-based approach to relieving symptoms of PTSD and major depression and developing greater resilience to stress. Please know that if you are experiencing symptoms or mental health challenges, asking for help is truly courageous.

Good Idea?

Alternative Use for GI Bill?

Alternative Use for GI Bill?

Congressman Jeff has proposed the Veterans Entrepreneurial Transition Business Benefit Act, H.R. 114. The legislation would allow Veterans who do not want to go to college to use the funds to start a business. Fortenberry said, “As not all veterans pursue a path of higher education, allowing them to use their earned benefits to help establish and operate a business would augment the diversity of options available to them, and bolster the small business economy.” At present, the bill applies only to Montgomery GI Bill recipients, with legislation for Post 9/11 GI Bill recipients currently being drafted. Tell us what you think of this plan.
