Tell a Friend

As the holidays are quickly approaching and 2015 is coming to an end, we at MiltaryConnection.com want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy holiday season. The end of the year affords us the opportunity to reflect back on the passing year, and we are thankful for our audience and your support. We also want to express our gratitude to the numerous non-profits and associations we have the honor to work with for the wonderful work that they do. Thank you to our clients, who provide us the opportunity to do what we do to assist these amazing non-profits. And of course, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to our troops, first responders, Veterans, and their supporters. We hope that, as always, you find the information in our newsletter valuable, and share it with those who can benefit from it. Wishing you and your loved ones a healthy, prosperous New Year.

altavita

Altavita 5K- A Great Success

When Altavita Marketing was organizing a 5K charity run/walk, they sought out a deserving non-profit that could benefit from the race proceeds. That non-profit turned out to be Rebuilding America’s Warriors (R.A.W.). The 5K took place on Saturday, November 14th at the Altavita Continuing Care Retirement Community in Riverside, CA. It was a huge success, with more than 100 participants taking part, and a great day for all. Age was no factor, as the oldest participant, 84 years young, and the youngest participant, four years old, could both attest to! And the best part? Altavita’s check in the amount of $5,158, which will go a long way to help our brave servicemembers who carry scars as a result of shrapnel, burns, and artillery wounds.

The Holiday Spirit

The Holiday Spirit

There’s Still Time to Help

If you would like to support or adopt a military service member or a military or veteran family from your community, consider these tips: If you are located near a military installation, contact a military chaplain (Battalion Chaplain in the Army) or a Family Readiness Group Leader. Some installations run a Santa's shop program in which donations are received so military families in need can "shop" for items for their family. MilitaryConnection.com has listings of military installations by service branches.

Congratulations Bonnie!

Congratulations Bonnie!

Our Friend and Presidential Medal of Freedom Winner

In a White House ceremony on November 24th, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) President and Founder Bonnie Carroll received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Carroll founded TAPS in 1994, when there was no national support network for families of America's fallen heroes. After losing her husband, Brig. Gen. Tom Carroll, in an Army plane crash in 1992, Carroll turned her tragedy into a purposeful effort to create what is today the national program providing compassionate care for all those grieving the death of a service member. Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, recently retired 18th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said "I simply don't know how the Armed Forces of the United States and their families would have persevered during the past 21 years of prolonged service, commitment and sacrifice without Bonnie Carroll and the dedicated men, women and children of the TAPS family she has loved, led and nurtured.”

A Sense of Camaraderie

Vet Life Community

Vet Life Community

Vet Life Community is a network of local weekly support meetings - veterans helping veterans face to face - offering tools to help them as they transition back into life outside the military. Their mission is to provide a program for veterans and their families that helps develop social, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Meetings are free for all participating veterans and their loved ones. Vet Life Community echoes the sense of camaraderie that veterans felt when they were in the military, providing a place where veterans can meet other veterans who really understand; people who have “been there.” Community members can get together for ball games, televised sports, or even just a cup of coffee at a local coffee shop.  For more information, visit them on the web or email janet@liferenewed.org.

To ensure that “no child is left behind,” Homefront America sponsors two different programs during the holiday season. Homefront Santa and Gifts for our Little Unsung Heroes. Homefront Santa endeavors to match sponsors to military families; and Gifts for our Little Unsung Heroes provides each registered child with unwrapped toys or gift cards. Their Christmas Toy Store offers parents of military children the opportunity to "shop" at the Toy Store at no cost to them, while their children enjoy lunch with Santa and his Elves, arts and crafts, activities, face painting, and caroling. In addition, holiday meals for families are also provided. For more information, click here.
