I don’t know about you, but to me, it seems like it was only a few weeks ago that the kids were getting out of school and summer was upon us. And now it’s the beginning of August, and back to school shopping is in full swing. In military families, that task usually falls to one parent, the one that isn’t deployed. It can be tough going for the custodial parent, and even harder on the parent that can’t partake of the day-to-day family activities. Please do your best to keep these families in mind. Remember that small acts of kindness go a long way in expressing your appreciation for the sacrifices they make on a daily basis.

Military Children

Help Make a Difference for Military Children

The impact upon a child whose parent or guardian is serving in the Armed Forces cannot be underestimated.  The mental and emotional toll as a result of the changed family dynamics may be far reaching, impacting school success, as well as overall child/family well-being.  CA  Senate Bill 369, also known as California Longitudinal Pupil Data System (CALPADS) is an important piece of legislation that will impact over 60,000 students from military families across the state. CALPADS will provide a uniform method for tracking their attendance and academic progress in our public schools. We urge all of our California readers to contact your State Legislators no later than September 1st in order to gain their support in passing SB 369. You can access a pre-written letter with the email addresses of your elected officials here
