November is a month of giving thanks. On Thanksgiving Day, we express gratitude for the things we are fortunate to have in our lives. On Veterans Day, a grateful nation thanks our veterans and their loved ones for their service and sacrifice. If you would like some ideas of ways that you can express your gratitude to our men and women in uniform, past and present and their families, we have some suggestions here.
In the spirit of giving thanks through both words and deeds, I would like to leave you with a quote from Theodore Roosevelt:
“Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds.”
Warm regards,
Debbie Gregory, CEO

Commercial Driver’s Training

|
Transportation Industry Careers
Major trucking companies have a serious shortage of qualified drivers, and the shortage continues every year. According to CNN, 400,000 qualified drivers will be required in the coming years. Veterans who train for this career can expect a first year’s income of between, $35,000 and $40,000, increasing to over $50,000 with career development and benefits. Because of recent changes in the rules governing VA educational benefits, Veterans can now use their education benefits at The CDL School to obtain training and certification required by the transportation industry. The CDL School, founded in 1963, is a nationally recognized full service commercial driving school, licensed and approved by the state licensing agencies as well as the Veterans Administration. Visit www.cdlschool.com for more information and to register for one of the frequent live or online orientations.

Thank You Veterans

DISCOUNTS FOR VETERANS
Many businesses honor Veterans and Servicemembers by offering Veterans Day discounts on goods, services and dining. Most businesses require some proof of military service, which could be a VA Universal Access Card, Military I.D., DD-214 (Discharge Papers) or in some cases, a picture of the veteran in uniform will suffice. We apologize in advance if you are unable to take advantage of any of the discounts or freebies due to the lack of acceptable I.D., non-participation of your local establishment in their national chain’s Veterans Day programs, etc. We have personally checked and verified the participation of the companies we have listed here , but we still advise calling ahead in case a reservation is required

Shop Smart for Job Boards
There are more than 100,000 job boards and social media sites on the Internet. So, how do you know which ones will work best for you? The key is to “shop” for job boards the same way you shop for anything else. You have to compare the services, features and fees of the alternatives.
Where can you get that information? One place is a book called Job Nation: The Top 100 Employment Sites on the Web. The American Staffing Association called its editor, Peter Weddle, the “Zagat of the online employment industry.” Job Nation has everything you need to be a smart consumer of job boards. And best of all, it’s priced for everyone’s budget and available at Amazon.com.

Warning from the Army CID

|
Dating Scam
The Army Criminal Investigation Command issued a warning regarding online dating with persons falsely claiming to be U.S. Soldiers serving in Iraq, Afghanistan or elsewhere. CID receives hundreds of allegations each month from people victimized on legitimate dating and social media websites. The "Soldier" requests money for false service-related needs such as transportation, communication fees, medical fees, etc. Victims of these scams have lost tens of thousands of dollars, with a very low possibility of recovery. The people committing these scams are using untraceable email addresses, routing accounts through numerous locations around the world and utilizing pay per hour Internet cyber cafes, which lack accountability of use.
