Champions for Military Families
Featured Fundraiser - 5 year old Ronnie
Dear Fisher House Foundation,
My son just had his 5th birthday, and he asked his friends to donate to your organization instead of buying him presents this year (which really helped us cut down on the excess toys). He wants to be a soldier someday, and even though we don't know any soldiers personally, he still wanted to help soldiers and their families, as a way to say "thank you" for their service.
We joined Team Fisher House, after a random Google search for charities to help military families, that brought me to your website (which was very impressive). We had our own website for online donations (very easy) and collected cash/check donations at my son's dinosaur birthday party. Enclosed please find these offline donations, which were collected through "Team Fisher House - Ronnie,"
I have also enclosed a photo of my son taken at his birthday party, and a yellow ribbon craft magnet that we made for everyone who donated to our cause. Thank you for the wealth of information and personal stories we found on your website. Many people told me how wonderful it was to give something back to soldiers and their families, and we were happy to spread the word about Fisher House!

Michelle Obama Dedicates New Fisher Houses
An excerpt from Michelle Obama's Dedication Speech:
I have to say it is a pleasure and it is an honor to join you as you open the doors of this beautiful house, one of the three new Fisher houses that you're opening here at the National Naval Medical Center.
Every day, this house and others like it across this country remind us of a simple truth: that when our men and women in uniform are called to serve, their families serve, too. Their sacrifice is their families' sacrifice, as well. And that's particularly true in times of crisis when our service members and veterans are sick or wounded and are struggling to get well again.
We know the toll that can take on a family, both personally and financially, especially when a loved one is receiving treatment far away from home. We know the fear and the anxiety that these families experience. We know the prohibitive costs of hotels and transportations, costs that have kept many family members apart, and placed tremendous burdens on so many others.
That is what Fisher House provides for so many military families -- that chance to be together when they need each other most. Now, houses like this one allow them to leave behind their worries about costs and logistics and focus on what matters most -- helping their loved ones heal.

Your Funds at Work - National Naval Medical Center Fisher Houses
Funds raised by Team Fisher House at the 2010 Marine Corps Marathon were designated towards the construction of the newly dedicated Fisher Houses at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The 2010 MCM team is recognized as a 3-star donor on the bronze plaque permanently displayed in the foyer of each new house.
In preparation for the shift of patients from Walter Reed Army Medical Center to Bethesda, the capacity at the Bethesda Fisher Houses will increase from 15 to 68 families. There are now five Fisher Houses at Bethesda, all near each other and within walking distance of the medical facilities. About a dozen families have moved into one of the new houses already.
Fisher House Foundation builds and furnishes the houses, then gives them to the military services or the Department of Veterans Affairs to operate. These three new houses at Bethesda bring the total number of Fisher Houses to 53.
The very first Fisher House was opened at Bethesda nearly 20 years ago. Since then more than 130,000 families have been served, with nearly 3 million days of lodging, saving them an estimated $150 million.
Without the dedication and commitment from fundraisers, donors, and volunteers from around the world, Fisher House Foundation would be unable to fulfill its mission: Helping Military Familes. Thank you for recognizing that "'Thanks for your service' is no longer enough."
Thank you for supporting Fisher House Foundation through the Team Fisher House Program. You truly are a Champion for Military Families!
