Veterans for Change - Personal Plea for Your Assistance

All Hands on Deck
Updated – 10/11/11 @ 8:00pm PST

Dear VFC Friend:

Please forgive me for intruding and sending another E-Mail, I want to thank seven of our readers for their donations to VFC's Emergency Financial Aid Program to help our Veterans in their time of need.

Sad to say though we fell extremely short, and I've worked quite hard the last two and a half days making even more calls to local Veteran Service Organizations, churches and charities trying to make up the difference.

I was able to locate one of our business owners who has donated from time to time and was able to get a donation of $300.00 from his company.

But we're still rather short in meeting the need, so reluctantly I do come to you again to ask for your help.

We desperately need ten people who can donate $25.00 each to help our last Veteran from this past weekends notice and keep him safe from potential eviction.

This week we had three Veterans seeking emergency assistance and the first two have been covered:

  • Army PFC Paul McNair, 23 of Tennessee served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and was injured in Paktika province, Afghanistan, after enemy forces attacked his unit with small makeshift bomb.

Paul took a hit to his knee blowing it out, has been thru two surgeries so far and a possible third coming up.  In the mean time he had been living off his savings and his brother and sister-in-law had been subsidizing his rent till they too became strapped.  Paul has asked for assistance with his rent while we get him additional help through HUD and Social Security.  We're looking to raise $325.00 to assist Paul.
  • Army SGT Jordan Bradbury, 32 of Kansas served three tours of duty in Iraq and was injured in Wasit province, Iraq, when enemy forces attacked their unit with a makeshift bomb.

Jordon lost his right arm in this attack and has been being stalled repeatedly by a VSO who from all accounts hadn't a clue what his real job is.  We've secured a new VSO very knowledgeable in the VA Claims process and has assured a speedy processing.

Jordon's wife Sarah does work but only part time since her company has cut back her hours.  Jordan and Sarah have asked for assistance with their rent as well.  We did get partial coverage from their church but we're looking to raise the short fall of $250.00.

  • Marine LCPL Ronald Olsen, 24 of Wyoming served one tour of duty in Afghanistan and sustained injuries while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

When Ron returned home due to his injuries moved back in with his mother who was sharing expenses with him.

Sad to say Ron's mother had a very bad stroke and is now in a nursing home and is finding it very difficult to make ends meet till his claims are approved.

We've connected Ron with our Social Security expert, filed the assistance application with the VA, but need to help him with the current months rent.  We're looking to raise $250.00 to cover the remainder of his current rent due.

Our new goal deadline is 7:00am PST on Wednesday, October 12, 2011.
