2012 NDAA Signed by President Obama
President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 on Saturday, January 31, 2011. The $662 billion act funds an active-duty end strength of 1,422,600 and Reserve Component end strength of 847,100. It fully funds a 1.6 percent authorized pay raise for military personnel, as well as adds $1 billion to the National Guard and Reserve Equipment Account.

Defense Secretary to Reveal Strategy for Cutting Military Budget
Department of Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta will outline his approach to cut military spending on Thursday, January 5. The Pentagon has committed to $450 billion in reduced spending over the next 10 years, but the risk of deeper cuts continues to loom over DoD's strategy into the next decade. Secretary Panetta's strategy for absorbing these cuts has been anxiously awaited by a military community facing an uncertain future. While specifics may not become available until the President's budget is released in February, Panetta's remarks will offer the first comprehensive look into DoD's approach. ROA remains responsive in its advocacy with a dynamic legislative agenda determined to be the voice on Capitol Hill for service members across the Reserve Component as roles, missions, and compensation face the prospect of significant change.
