The Halloween costumes hanging near the Christmas tree display are a jolting reminder that the holidays are fast approaching. While I love this time of year, it reminds me that there are many families who will be missing a family member at the holiday table. Our military and Veteran families make so many sacrifices, from frequent moves and post-deployment unemployment, to disability and post-traumatic stress, many obstacles loom as these families struggle just to make ends meet, let alone have a joyous celebration. At MilitaryConnection.com, we have the honor of working with a number of terrific non-profit organizations that do what they can to ease the burdens shouldered by these heroes. I hope that when you read about these charitable organizations, you will be moved to do what you can to support their good works, be it through volunteer work, a monetary donation, or just spreading the word.

Best regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

Gary Lends a Hand

Gary Sinise

Serving Heroes

Gary Sinise spent October 11th in San Diego, handing out food to the troops at the new San Diego International Airport USO. Gary hosted the “Serving Heroes” inaugural BBQ to launch the program, through the Gary Sinise Foundation, which will feed hundreds of servicemembers each month. Open 365 days a year, the new airport center will provide support for troops and their families, primarily Marine recruits headed to or coming from boot camp. Amenities include a luggage room, high-speed internet, complimentary snacks and refreshments. The center also has monitors that list airline departure and arrival times so troops can track changes to their flights. As most of our readers know, Gary started the Gary Sinise Foundation as a way to give back to active-duty military, Veterans and first responders. To see Gary’s upcoming dates with the Lt. Dan Band, click here.
