March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month. In the U.S., nearly 1.7 million people sustain a TBI each year. For those injured in military service, life may need to be reinvented and reinterpreted … basically, a new normal. And for family members, becoming a caregiver can happen suddenly, without any warning, and life changes for the entire family. Among the organizations that provide military-specific information and resources to Veterans, service members, and their families is the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center. This website, part of the U.S. military health system, has a wealth of information regarding symptoms and treatment, rehabilitation, and family issues associated with TBI care and recovery.

Best regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

Building Smart Homes

Gary Sinise and Rusty Dunagan

The Gary Sinise Foundation

In September, 2010, a soldier behind U.S. Army SSG Rusty Dunagan stepped on a landmine. On Tuesday, Gary Sinise accompanied SSG Dunagan as he toured Scott Sabolich Prosthetics and Research in advance of his fitting for prosthetics to replace both legs and part of the arm he lost in Afghanistan. Gary was in Oklahoma City to raise money to build a smart house for SSG Dunagan. The house will have the technology that will allow Dunagan to live independently. They are well on their way, as both the dinner and the special screening of Forrest Gump completely sold out. For more information regarding the great work Gary is doing for our wounded warriors, click here.
