As summer officially kicks off, millions of Americans will hit the road to visit museums, monuments and historical sites across the country. Thanks to Blue Star Museums, more than 2,000 museums around the country will offer free admission to military families. The offer, which runs through Labor Day, is a great way to say “thank you” to the families who serve and sacrifice. Another way we thank those who serve is through the GI Bill. June 22nd marks the 70th anniversary of the original GI Bill, the Servicemen's Readjustment Act. Enacted to create a wide range of benefits for Veterans returning from World War II, these benefits included low-cost home loans, educational and vocational training. We also want to remind you that June 27th is PTSD Awareness Day. Even though the current conflict is winding down, our nation’s warriors have been in harm’s way for over a decade, with many of them having deployed for multiple tours. If you have PTSD or know someone who does, please know that there are resources out there. Getting help is the first step in taking back your life. We hope you will take advantage of the resources available, including the Veterans Crisis Line, Give an Hour, and The Soldiers Project.

Best regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

In July, the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) will hold three stakeholder meetings (Oakland, Riverside and Sacramento) to gather input on targeting services and identifying where the demand is greatest for the Veterans Housing and Homeless Prevention Program.
