With 1 in 5 people living with a mental health condition, taking action and raising awareness can break down obstacles and improve the chances of recovery for millions of Americans with a mental illness. At, we are proud to partner with the Campaign to Change Direction to create a new story in America about mental health, mental illness, and wellness.  By bringing these issues to the nation's attention, hopefully we can all work to de-stigmatize PTSD, depression, and the other mental health issues that often times lead to suicide. If you, your buddy or a loved one have thoughts of suicide or are depressed, please be courageous and ask for help.

Best regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

Questions, Questions...

Your GI Bill Benefits

The Post 9/11 GI Bill affords many great benefits, including tuition, a housing allowance, and a book/supplies stipend. But how do you choose a school that will best meet your needs? What is the best way to use your benefit? How do you connect with other Veterans and become part of that community? Military Connection Staff Writer Joe Silva shares his experiences as a Veteran student who has navigated these waters, having achieved his Bachelor's degree, and steaming full speed ahead (Navy puns intentional, Joe!) towards his Master's. We invite you to read his articles to find answers to your questions.

There are more benefits to being part of the U.S. Army health care team than you think. Benefits that can advance your skills and knowledge, shape your perspective, and provide you a comfortable and rewarding lifestyle.

Whether you choose the U.S. Army as your career or serve in the U.S. Army Reserve while maintaining your existing practice, you'll enter as a commissioned Officer. The health care lifestyle will give you respect, responsibility and prestige that are afforded your rank.

Care Packages

Do You Have a Loved One in Uniform?

Operation Gratitude sends care packages to deployed service members. Each care package contains an assortment of approximately fifty snack, entertainment and hygiene items, along with personal letters of appreciation. Their mission is to put a smile on each and every service member's face, letting him or her know they are thought of and appreciated. This is best accomplished by each service member receiving a package in their own name. Therefore, it is their policy to send packages individually addressed. They plan to send 100,000 packages this year, and welcome the names of your loved ones. There are also numerous volunteer opportunities available.

Military Children

Help Make a Difference for Military Children

The impact upon a child whose parent or guardian is serving in the Armed Forces cannot be underestimated.  The mental and emotional toll as a result of the changed family dynamics may be far reaching, impacting school success, as well as overall child/family well-being.  CA  Senate Bill 369, also known as California Longitudinal Pupil Data System (CALPADS) is an important piece of legislation that will impact over 60,000 students from military families across the state. CALPADS will provide a uniform method for tracking their attendance and academic progress in our public schools. We urge all of our California readers to contact Gov. Brown and urge him to sign the bill. You can access a pre-written letter here.
