Newsletter - April 2016

Tell a Friend

For many years, April has been designated as the Month of the Military Child. The designation emphasizes the important role children play in the Armed Forces community. There are approximately 2 million military children who are 18 years old or younger, and knowing that they are being taken care of strengthens the health, security, and safety of our nation's armed forces. Let’s all remember the sacrifices these children make, and honor them for their character, courage and resilience.

April is also National Financial Literacy Month, highlighting financial literacy and the importance of establishing and maintaining healthy financial habits. Just by making some small  changes to your spending habits, you can put  more money in your pocket or savings account. Think about the spending you do out of habit; that morning coffee that you could be making at home for pennies rather than dollars, buying a brand when a generic is just as good, buying items at a convenience store in a small quantity. Always ask for discount or a coupon, and remember to check our deals and discounts page!

Best regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

The Benefits of TM

Cocktail

The David Lynch Foundation

There is an epidemic of veterans who suffer from PTSD. The raw, brutal statistics of 23 suicides per day are just too horrible, too unconscionable to ignore. Published study after study in addition to testimonials confirms that 20 minutes of Transcendental Meditation (TM) twice a day significantly decreases stress and anxiety and reduces the symptoms of PTSD and depression by approximately 50%. In fact, 80% of meditating veterans decrease or altogether cease use of psychotropic medication within months of beginning the practice. The David Lynch Foundation has a goal to raise $3 million to teach TM to 6,000 veterans and, literally, save lives by helping prevent the next veteran suicides. Just $500 will provide one veteran with the lifelong tool of TM. When a veteran learns to meditate, it also benefits his or her partner, children, friends, coworkers, and community. Military Sexual Trauma

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) uses the term “military sexual trauma” (MST) to refer to sexual assault or sexual harassment during military service, and has resources available to assist Veterans in their recovery from MST.  Veterans can receive free treatment for mental and physical health conditions related to their experiences of MST at every VA medical facility.  Veterans do not need to have documentation of their experiences and may be able to receive care even if they are not eligible for other VA services. Veterans can apply for disability compensation for any current difficulties that are related to their service, including difficulties related to MST.
