Tell a Friend

I am eagerly awaiting the America Salutes You Concert which will air and stream over the Thanksgiving weekend. I am in awe as to how many moving parts are involved in putting a concert together, but I was fortunate to work with consummate professionals, from the production team to the camera operators to the stagehands, and everyone in-between. I am especially grateful to all of the performers who gave their time and talent to make this event so entertaining: Cyndi Lauper, Gavin DeGraw, Hoodie Allen, Wanda Jackson, CeCe Winans, Ricky Skaggs, Anthony Kearns, Andra Day, Tegan Marie, Savannah Maddison, Jim Cornelison, Tom Dreesen, David Eigenberg, and many others. To my friend Bob Okun, the creator of America Salutes You (and the founder of ThanksUSA): I thank you for your vision, and the many personal sacrifices you made in order to make this concert happen.

I hope everyone will tune in to enjoy the performers and donate to the extraordinary non-profits that support those who have sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy, as we celebrate all that we have to be thankful for this upcoming holiday weekend.

Best regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

Well Done Gary!

Gary Sinise

Adapted Smart Home for Wounded Warrior

The Gary Sinise Foundation just completed its 52nd “smart home” for wounded veterans and their families. The newest home has gone to Army Captain Luis Avila, who was injured when a roadside bomb exploded during his fifth tour in Afghanistan.  He lost three of his fellow soldiers. Avila had two strokes, two heart attacks, suffered brain damage and lost his leg. He was in a coma for 40 days, and wasn’t expected to survive.  He’s still receiving therapy at Walter Reed National Medical Center, but now, he has a new place to call home. “While we never can truly repay the debt that we owe Luis, we can strive to show him and his brothers and sisters in arms our appreciation and gratitude whenever possible,” Sinise said. Coming back to the United States doesn’t mean the battles are over for veterans like Captain Avila, but thanks to projects like this, they can actually feel like they’ve finally come home.

CA National Guard

Assistance for Incentive Payback Demands

Assistance for Incentive Payback Demands

Thousands of honorable California National Guard Soldiers who enlisted or extended their service in good faith during a time of war fell victim to a fraud committed by individuals who had chosen to act outside the Guard values. The requirement to recoup those incentive payments, some of which were spent a decade ago, has brought hardships to many Citizen Soldiers and retired veterans who signed up for incentives based on misinformation about their eligibility.  The Soldier Incentives and Assistance Center (SIAC) has helped hundreds of Soldiers who have had their debts forgiven or have corrected their records to enable them to comply with the terms of their incentive contracts. Unfortunately, more than 4,000 Soldiers with errors in their incentive packets have not had the same opportunity because the Cal Guard’s SIAC has been unable to contact them. If you fall into this category, contact the SIAC at 855-751-4087 or  for assistance.

Scholarships for Military Families

ThanksUSA Launches $100 Million Strong Campaign

ThanksUSA has launched $100 Million Strong, a campaign to grant more than 25,000 scholarships to military spouses and children in need over the next 10 years. To lead the campaign, ThanksUSA announced that the former executive director and founder of Hiring Our Heroes, retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Schmiegel, has assumed the role of president. “The need to close the financial gap for military families seeking higher education is clear and compelling, and the $100 Million Strong campaign will help to do just that,” said Schmiegel. “While the post-9/11 G.I. Bill has supported many, it simply isn't enough for the hundreds of thousands of families serving on active duty with multiple children and only one source of income.” Visit to learn more and donate.
