Tell a Friend

Over the holidays, we saw many examples of generosity extended to military and veteran families. As we settle back into the routines of back to work, back to school, and back to daily life, it is important to remember that we all benefit from the work done by the men and women who serve, past and present. Those who answer the call to serve contribute to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Therefore, I encourage you to keep random acts of kindness in your to-do list to make sure that our active military, Guard members, Reservists, veterans and their families know the depth of our gratitude. Employers, remember that Veterans have an exceptional work ethnic and have expertise in all occupational areas.  Think about becoming a “Veteran Friendly Employer.”   For more information contact [email protected].

Best regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

Operation Warrior Wellness

Warrior Wellness

Healing the Hidden Wounds of War

Over half a million U.S. troops deployed since 2001 suffer from PTSD. Yet less than 20% will receive adequate care due to lack of effective treatments, fear of stigma or insufficient government resources. Half of those with PTSD won't receive any care at all. Left untreated, PTSD cripples functioning and places veterans at great risk for violent and self-destructive behavior. Operation Warrior Wellness (OWW), a division of the David Lynch Foundation, offers the Transcendental Meditation-based Resilient Warrior Program, a simple, easy-to-learn, evidence-based approach to relieving symptoms of PTSD and major depression and developing greater resilience to stress. 2017 VA Disability Compensation

There was a small increase for disability compensation rates for 2017, which is a slight improvement over 2016, a year in which there was no cost of living increase. Increases in VA Service-Connected Disability Rates are tied to the same Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA) provided by the Social Security Administration. These are the same rates the government uses for determining cost of living increases for Social Security recipients, military retirees, and federal civilian retirees. The previous rate increase was in 2015, when VA Disability rates increased by 1.7%. In 2014 the VA, for the first time, included amounts above a flat dollar amount. In previous years, the amount was rounded down to the nearest dollar. This change won’t make a huge difference now, but if this policy remains in place, it will compound over time.
