Newsletter - April 2017 #2

Tell a Friend

Every day, there are a lot of scary events taking place in our world, and the men and women who wear our nation’s uniform volunteer to be put in harm’s way. Our servicemembers and their loved ones make incredible sacrifices so that the rest of us can live safely and prosper. We know that there are a number of wonderful non-profits that support those who are deployed, because we are fortunate to work with many of them. We hope you will support them and help them express the gratitude of our nation. And I want to give a shout out to my favorite Admiral and his command. You know who you are; stay safe and be confident that America is forever in your debt, as we are for every man and woman who has donned our nation’s uniform.

Best regards,

Debbie Gregory, CEO

Settlement on Shift Differential

Current and former Army and Air Force Exchange Service employees could be entitled to a cash payout thanks to a class-action lawsuit recently settled between the company and two former workers. The $4 million settlement, reached in early December, affects AAFES employees who worked or were scheduled for non-overtime shifts primarily between 3 p.m. and 8 a.m. from Nov. 1, 2008, to April 22, 2016, but did not receive correct pay, according to court documents. Workers who qualify for the settlement were notified by mail, and have until May 30 to file a claim. If an employee thinks they may qualify but did not receive the notice, they can apply on the settlement website.

Air Reserve Cautions Using AirBnB

Air Force

Avoid Non-reimbursable Lodging Charges

The Air Reserve Personnel Center has recommended Individual Reservists no longer utilize AirBnB (and similar lodging options) when traveling on orders as those properties are not available to book through the Defense Travel System or Travel Management Company. Forthcoming Air Force policy will likely disallow, or limit to the on-base rate, lodging reimbursement to members who opt to utilize that service. The new policy will likely not contain a grace period. As a reminder, all travelers are required to utilize DTS or TMC (formerly CTO) when making lodging arrangements. Not utilizing DTS or TMC may make lodging charges non-reimbursable. For more information, contact the IMA Travel Office.
